After originally looking to install a marble stone floor in the contemporary space, a high gloss resin finish from Flowcrete India was chosen to reflect the modern surroundings.
Firstly, the two-component epoxy resin primer Flowprime was installed across the 2,200 m2 space to act as a membrane between the substrate and the installation of the unique, epoxy modified, self-leveling screed Flowcem.
Acting as a damp proof membrane, Flowcem was hand applied at a thickness of 3mm in the same area, which included the ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor and amphi theatre.
After almost two months, the fully cured Flowcem was coated with the self-smoothing resin floor finish Peran SL at a thickness of 2mm, thanks to its durability against intensive traffic and its attractive, high-gloss finish. Finally, the entire area was then coated with the satin-finished Flowseal EPW, a pigmented epoxy floor sealer for added durability and ease of cleanability.
The floor’s bright and clean aesthetic, whilst being visually pleasing on its own merit also acts as a blank canvas on which to emphasise the gallery’s artistic style and the artwork itself.
With several projects commencing at once within the space, the application took almost six months to complete ahead of the gallery opening.
