Hindustan Foods Ltd, Coimbatore

Hindustan Food Limited was established in 1988 as a result of Dempo Group’s foray into the FMCG segment through a joint venture with Glaxo India Limited, with the objective of manufacturing nutritional food products. After diversifying across various FMCG categories in 2013, manufacturing competencies in food and non-food extended to cosmetics, personal care and home care products.

The construction of the large facility in Coimbatore was needed to blend and pack tea, coffee and other beverages for Hindustan Unilever Limited. The client therefore required flooring that could withstand exposure to beverage products, and called upon Flowcrete India to help.

5,120 m² of the self-smoothing polyurethane resin floor finish Flowfresh SL was utilised throughout the processing area of the facility. With incorporated Polygiene®, a performance based antibacterial additive; the client could rest assured that the growth of bacteria, fungi, mould and mildew would be inhibited.

Chemical and abrasion resistance were added benefits of Flowfresh SL, due to the likelihood of produce being spilled onto the floor of the facility. Sugars and natural acids found in some beverages could lead to floor failure if the flooring is not adept at handling such chemicals.

Regular exposure to strong chemical cleaners was also expected in the facility, and the flooring needed to be able to handle this. The seamless nature of Flowfresh SL meant that no dirt or bacteria could hide in joints in the floor, and could therefore be easily cleaned away.

The addition of 900 Rmt of 75mm coving, using Flowprime and Flowseal UV, added to this ease of cleanability, as dirt cannot hide in joints between the floor and walls. This coving was used on each wall and surrounded the concrete pillars in the facility.

The installation was completed within the 24-day stipulated time, much to the client’s appreciation.
