Makino India Ltd, a world leader in metal cutting and manufacturing technology, installed a high-performance resin coating from Flowcrete India in its new Chennai site to ensure that the production space would have a fully optimised floor area.

The floor finish would be subjected to a long list of industrial challenges, such as impacts, traffic from pedestrians and wheeled equipment, point loading, exposure to industrial substances and frequent cleaning.

1,650 m² of the high-gloss, self-smoothing epoxy resin system Flowshield SL was applied as it would provide Makino with a long lasting, reliable surface that won’t deteriorate when faced with the site’s daily challenges. A bright light blue colour was chosen for the floor finish, creating an eye-catching and contemporary aesthetic within the large manufacturing area.

Maintaining a clean, unblemished floor is vital in advanced manufacturing facilities, as cracks and failures can quickly lead to an unsafe and unclean operating environment. Makino India Ltd knew that to preserve the quality of its products an easy to clean floor was required, as it would help to rapidly remove any dust or unwanted contaminants which could affect the integrity of the equipment and machinery onsite. The seamless, impervious and glossy nature of Flowshield SL means helps the cleaning regime to quickly and effectively wash the floor.

The flooring project consisted of applying a 2mm underlay with a 1mm thick Flowshield SL coating. The work was completed to a high standard within only seven days, this meant that the site could start manufacturing on schedule.
