SEWC 2017

The Structural Engineers World Congress (SEWC) is an independent organisation dedicated to the art, science and practice of structural engineering. Established in 1994, SEWC aims to address major issues relating to the contemporary, technical and professional aspects of the structural engineering profession worldwide. 

Due to its global success, organisers chose to increase the number of conferences from every four, to every two years, providing engineering professionals with regular opportunities to interact and share industry knowledge whilst also discussing future trends. 

This year’s conference takes place from the 13^th to 15^th July at the NIMHANS Convention Centre in Bengaluru and will cover topical issues such as sustainability. A number of industry experts will deliver keynote speeches, for example ‘Why Designers Fail to Grasp Structures’ by Proffesor Manoru Kawaguchi from Japan and ‘Unusual Structural Problems in High Rise R.C. Buildings’ by Dr. Gian Carol Giuliani from Italy. 

President of SEWC, R Sundaram said ‘As usual, this Colloquium will be of great interest as it will feature highly respected internationally renowned speakers who will share, discuss and debate the present and new developments and advancements that will impact the fields of civil, structural engineering and related fields’.

Concrete plays a vital role in all branches of civil engineering and is considered a binder of sorts for material development. However, as concrete production contributes 5% of annual anthropogenic global CO2 production, there have been several, global innovations to endeavor to address the issue. The resulting developments in new concrete additives could lead to the production of a stronger, more workable and sustainable material with less harmful emissions.
